The basement offers an option for extra living space, especially as an alternative to buying a new house. Converting the basement into a media room, bedroom, or office space can dramatically increase the home's living space and value.

I love basement remodels which make you feel as if you are on ground level, not under. I think a big factor is how the floor feels under your feet. If you are walking on unforgiving concrete floors (even under ceramic or vinyl tile), you know you are in a basement. Another big factor is a lot of lighting.
We are building a basement as part of our home addition but plan to finish it later. Thanks for the great blog!

I completely agree- having plush carpet and natural lighting can make the basement feel so much more comfortable and "at home".

Basements are great as a guest room for visiting family, or an extra room for kids in college. I've also seen basements work wonderfully as a rental room for a boarder if a family wants to earn some extra money. Exercise and recreation equipment can be placed in the basement too!
First off thanks for such a nice log.
Remodeling basement is a great idea because it gonna be useful in many ways.
